Seyi Shay
Biography
Born Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua to a polygamous family with 12 offspring, Seyi Shay and her 3 maternal siblings were raised single-handedly by her late mother in the United Kingdom. As a child, she was influenced directly by her mum who was a chorister at their Celestial Church of Christ parish.
A singer, songwriter, record producer and performer, Seyi Shay signed a record deal with No Apology, a UK based record label before forming a girl band, Boadicea in 2006. When this move did not pan out as expected, Shay attended the From Above UK auditions, a singing talent hunt competition and emerged victorious alongside 4 other girls. The group was flown to the United States and Matthew Knowles, father and former manager of Beyonce promptly signed them up to his management company.
After 4 years with From Above, Shay was solo again and impressed by the success of artistes like 2face and Sound Sultan, returned home to test the waters. Presently signed to Island records UK, Shay has performed around the world with international acts such as Beyonce and Ne-yo and has written songs for English artistes, Melanie C and Chipmunk.
